After the success of our first film showing, we decided to hold the same activity once again. This time, we were joined by the Kababaihan who voluntarily prepared our food, snacks & drinks! (Shoutout to Ate Phoebe Bersamen & fam!) We kick-started it with Prayer & Praise followed by an energizing (and chaotic) ice breaker which made everyone hyped up & excited! 😄
While this movie seems to only be revolving around marriage, a lot of other areas in our lives were also tackled here - humility, forgiveness, loyalty, temperance, etc. Whether you're in a relationship, engaged, married, single, NBSB (No Boyfriend, Still Blessed *wink*), you can definitely relate to this movie! I highly recommend to watch it first before you proceed. Don't wanna spoil you 💗

Never leave your partner behind - such a remarkable tagline of this movie. This mainly talks about the marriage but in my opinion, when we say partner here, we’re
not just talking about your better half or co-worker in a fire department.
We’re also talking about our closest friends, family, & relatives. Do we make ourselves physically available & spiritually strong for them? Are we hoping that they will also encounter Jesus in their lives and accept Him as their Lord & Savior? Did we also try to pray for them?
Moving on, let me share with you some quotable quotes from the movie and how we can relate our Christian life with every word spoken by the characters.
Moving on, let me share with you some quotable quotes from the movie and how we can relate our Christian life with every word spoken by the characters.
1. “Fireproof doesn’t mean the fire won’t ever
come — but that when it comes, you’ll be able to withstand it.”
As Christians, we are
not promised of a storm-proof or fireproof life. Trials and difficulties will certainly come. Hence, we shouldn't be surprised anymore. Our prayer shouldn't be, "Lord, can I not experience this problem?" Instead, we should pray, "Lord, strengthen me when this problem comes."
Let us feed our minds & hearts with positivity & words from God like Isaiah 41:10 - "Fear not for I am with you." Sometimes, we tend to dwell on our 'big' problems but we have to remind ourselves that our God is bigger than them! God continuously gives us strength to overcome everything. Also, expect that God will send someone (in the movie, it's Caleb's father) who will help you. Someone who will be used by God to be a blessing to you. He will never let us face the problems alone. He's always with us - never leaves, never forsakes.

2. “How am I supposed to show love to someone
over and over and over who constantly rejects me?”
At some point in our lives, we all have experienced being rejected right? In the movie, Caleb asked, “How am I supposed to show love to someone over and over and over who constantly rejects me?” I'm sure he felt awful. Admit it or not, sometimes, that’s who we are to God. Unknowingly, if we don’t obey Him, we reject Him. If we don’t follow His will for us, we reject Him. Could you imagine how painful it is for the Lord that Caleb has been constantly rejecting Him? He was not rejecting his father but the Lord!
Good deeds, outstanding works in the community & Best Fireman Award are not enough to please God. His standards are so high that He sent His only son who is blameless & pure to die and pay for our sins. Caleb then finally realized that without God, he is nothing. And so, he prayed that God will help him love Catherine even more just like what God is doing. Despite Caleb's rejections, God keeps on loving Him and he felt it through his mother & father, through his friends and co-workers.

3. “You can’t love her because you can’t give
her what you don’t have.”
Same is true with our faith. We cannot share what we do not have. How can we share the good news
about Him if we do not know Him or if we don't have the desire to know Him more? How can we be a blessing to others if
we are not blessed? We can only give something that
we have. If we don't have Jesus in our hearts, we cannot fulfill His commands to share the good news and achieve His image.
Caleb's co-worker played a
vital role in this movie. He is neither preachy nor pushy in reaching out to people around him. God's faithfulness radiates in him. It's very visible in his actions, lifestyle and overall perspective in life. He has the faith that eventually influenced, inspired and moved Caleb. He stood his ground to the extent of sharing to his teammates how sure he is on his way to heaven when his time is up. Why is it so
easy for him? Because he has something to share and that is Jesus.
4. “We
learned a lot of lessons the hard way.”
Sometimes, God's way of molding us is painful. We are usually having a hard time decoding His plans for us. The road may be foggy but if we let God do the driving, we will end up with the best. We just have to put our trust in Him and let Him take the wheel.
There are several scenes in the movie where Caleb was undeniably clueless about what's going on in his life despite his determination to make things right. He gave flowers, offered coffee, destroyed addiction and prepared candlelight dinner. All his efforts were left unappreciated by Catherine. No matter how hard he tries, the pain, hopelessness & the desperation to save their marriage keeps on repeating.
In every situation that we are in, there's always a lesson God is teaching us. God taught Caleb to be more patient & more kind. He has put Caleb in the most unpleasant situations to teach him how to be more humble, forgiving & understanding husband. As the saying goes, 'we are at our best when things are at their worst'.

I’m sure lots of us encounter
suffering & pain but let us be reminded that God is allowing them to happen
and He is only preparing us for what lies ahead. Also, it is in our pain
that God is closest to us, whether you realize it or not. The Bible
says in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit”.
5. “I’ve made a decision to love her whether
she deserves it or not.”
Do you know the meaning of
“grace”? It is something that is given to us even though we do not deserve it. "For it is by grace you have
been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created
in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to
do" (Ephesians 2:8-10). Let us always remind ourselves about
the graciousness of God. How He gave His one and only son to save us even
though we are all undeserving. That was God’s decision & we should be
grateful for what Jesus did on the cross.
Other than that, let us keep on
loving others as what God has commanded us to do. “Why do I have to love him/her? He/she doesn't deserve my love.” What's the great commandment? Love God above all and love
your neighbor as yourself no matter how undeserving you think he/she is. When God decided to send His son, did He become choosy & selective on who to save? No. Jesus paid for all of our sins. If
we are to become more like Him, we should also love others just like how He
loved us even when we were sinners.
6. “Watch
out for parasites. They steal away your loyalty from those you love.”
Temptations may eventually come but God’s grace, power and capability to deliver us from all kinds of evil works would always be sufficient. Let us surrender our weaknesses to Him and accept the fact that we cannot do it on our own. We cannot save ourselves from the pit of sins unless we ask for God's help and rescue. We will not encounter temptation that's beyond our control though. He will help
us conquer these worldly enticements. Let's just not rely on our own strength and always ask for His intervention.
“Ahh! I can do it.
I won't open that site.” But since we have a sinful
nature, you’ll find yourselves visiting that prohibited site again. Let us always pray that God will
give us the strength to overcome temptations. As tempting as they might seem,
God will be our strength. His grace will always be sufficient. According to the Love Dare book, "watch out for parasites".
When we fully commit ourselves to God, we only do what is pleasing to Him. When Caleb destroyed the computer, he said, “Okay Lord, no more addictions!” The old has gone, the new has come.
7. “Whatever you spend your time and energy on
will become more important to you. It’s hard to care for something you’re not
investing in.”
The Love Dare book was one of
the highlights here. At first, Caleb hesitates to invest & withholds the rightful amount for Catherine's happiness (gifts). It seems like he was just doing it to satisfy his father's request until half-way through, he finds himself doing everything from the heart. Why?
Because he now had the full understanding about the true meaning of love. When he passed the 40-day period, what did he say? “Who says you have to stop?"
It's as simple as this - if you love someone, you'll surely invest your time, effort, feelings, gifts & any other things that would make him/her happy. You want to make him/her feel valued
& important. Similarly, if we love God, we will
invest our time & our effort in glorifying Him. We make ourselves ready & prepared during Worship Day and attend activities like this. With that, God is being glorified and honored because we allot our time to Him. It's just right to bring Him back all thanks and praise for the guidance, sustenance and provision He continuously gives to each one of us every single day. We all have our busy schedules but let us always make ourselves available for Him. That’s what pleases God the most. "But seek first the
kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to
you." - Matthew 6:33
